On "Many Worlds" // Invisible Seeds Presentation of Residency

Learn about Shipibo-Konibo art as a means of communication with plants and plant life, indigenous contributions to the sustainability of food systems and the urgent need to preserve ancestral and indigenous knowledge and prevent the destruction of the Amazon, through the presentation of residency for the project Invisible Seeds

This art-science collaboration between artist Gala Berger, researcher, Irene Guerrero Fernandez (D5, agriculture and biodiversity), artist Metsa Rama (currently living in the Shipibo-Konibo Community of Cantagallo, Lima) will commission a new series of embroidered and painted textiles by the Shipibo-Konibo artists community. Whilst at the JRC, Gala has been developing the project with Irene, discussing the next steps for production of the works and connecting to other researchers such as the Citizen Engagement Team.

Find out more about Gala’s ongoing work, research and developments of the artwork and don’t miss the chance to personally get involved as the artist will also conduct a short hands-on workshop with materials and textiles during the presentation.

This residency is taking place in the framework of Resonances IV on NaturArchy: Towards a Natural Contract.

The presentation will take place Friday 23rd June - time TBD. It will be hybrid in format: Gala will present in person on the JRC Ispra site and it will be possible to follow the workshop and presentation via WEBEX. Please contact JRC-RESONANCES@ec.europa.eu if you would like to receive the link to attend or want to join in person. Please do come along to meet the wonderful team working on this project!

More about the project

The works will focus on the complex systems of planting, harvesting, and treating agricultural products that sustain life in the Amazon. Thus addressing the relationships between territory, human beings, non-human forms, and the spiritual worlds. The project will develop a model of dialogue and co-responsibility in the decision-making processes between the artists involved and the Shipibo-Konibo artists in the Amazon, and Irene the researcher.
