Next week, 06/02 to 10/02, Ingrid Mayrhofer-Hufnagl will return to the JRC for her art-science residency. She is currently working with Alan Belward (JRC), Elahe Rajabiani (EU Policy Lab) and Giorgio Tessadri (New European Bauhaus) to research and develop her project Specter[al]s of Nature, in the framework of NaturArchy.

More about the project
Today, urbanization has caused profound interventions that affect deep temporal and spatial planetary scales while clinging to inaptly shallow views of their implications. This limited time-and-space literacy keeps us alienated, not only from nature but also from the long-term and expansive consequences of our actions. The project intends to create an experience that embeds the audience in planetary cycles and rhythms of the natural resources that usually remain invisible as they exceed human perception and remain stories untold. Notably, the project approaches remote sensing technology as a speculative instrument that creates spectral landscapes using neural networks that have not yet been recorded as they are distributed across space and time.
Background
Ingrid Mayrhofer-Hufnagl is an experimental architect, researcher, and educator from Austria. Alan Belward is head of the Food Security Unit in the Directorate for Sustainable Resources in the JRC. Elahe Rajabiani is a designer at the EU Policy lab. Giorgio Tessadri works in the New European Bauhaus team as communication and event coordinator. Their ongoing collaboration is the result of successful connection at the 2022 SciArt Summer School.
