JRC SciArt @ COP27

On Wednesday 16/11 at 12:00 pm SciArt project leader Adriaan Eeckels will be virtually participating in a panel by EIT Climate-KIC at COP-27, discussing Digital Arts & Sustainable Web. Engaging in such conversations is of great importance and showcases the worldwide relevance of the work of the project, on themes such as datami on Big Data and AI and NaturArchy, which aims to give constructive input to the EU Green Deal.

This event will be live-streamed so make sure to follow - details to be found on the EIT Climate-KIC website.

Abstract

The planet is experiencing unprecedented climate change and the Internet is both part of the problem and the solution. From websites to cryptocurrencies and the rise of digital art, the Internet consumes large amounts of electricity in data centres, telecoms networks, and end user devices. If the Internet was a country, it would be the 7th largest polluter in the world and is expected to grow considerably by 2030.
