NaturArchy Residencies: Gala Berger @ JRC Ispra

With Invisible Seeds we have the chance to deeply reflect and discover more about life in the Amazon and its links to agricultural production, the relationships between territory, human beings, non-human forms, and the spiritual worlds and the work of indigenous communities in Peru and beyond…

Find out more, with artist Gala Berger, who will return to the JRC Ispra for two weeks (12/06 – 23/06), to meet and work with her collaborator, Irene Guerrero Fernandez (D5, agriculture), on this art-science project, Invisible Seeds. Gala will also connect to colleagues working on citizen engagement, indigeneity, agriculture and agricultural policy.

Invisible Seeds involves the commission of a new series of embroidered and painted textiles by the Shipibo-Konibo artists community. The project will develop a model of dialogue and co-responsibility in the decision-making processes between the artists involved and the Shipibo-Konibo artists in the Amazon, and Irene, biodiversity expert. The pieces produced will propose the recognition of indigenous contributions to the sustainability of food systems. They are also working with artist Metsa Rama who currently lives in the Shipibo-Konibo Community of Cantagallo in Lima. She has studies in international relations and Bilingual Intercultural Education. In addition, she is an Amazonian artist who loves her culture and her language.

Throughout the two weeks Gala will develop an artistic workshop with objects to engage JRC colleagues and the wider community, also presenting the project and artistic work. The presentation will be hybrid in format and Webex attendance will be possible, details to be confirmed. If you would like to receive the link to attend please contact  @JRC-RESONANCES@ec.europa.eu
