2024 IN REVIEW

NATURARCHY EXHIBITION

Born from two years of deep inquiry, research and co-creation between artists, scientists and policymakers, which began with a summer school at JRC in 2022 and continued with artistic residencies at JRC in 2023, the art and science works on show at the NaturArchy exhibition probed issues of deep ecology, sustainability and the decolonisation of nature.

Querying the entanglement of human and non-human, green technologies and new materials, nature and law, ecology and economy, ancient and new knowledge, the show questioned established points of view, the relationship between human and environment and sense of place and belonging to the world.

The result? An exploration of new possible configurations of the world and powerful reflections on the current environmental crisis.

You’ll find lovely reviews of NaturArchy on RTBF (FR); National Geographic Spain (ES) and more about the works and the show online.

Don’t miss the article "Rights Revolutions to Save Nature" by David Boyd - former UN rapporteur for Human Rights & Environment - just published on the JRC SciArt website, the first in the series of instalments of catalogue texts which will go live in 2025 leading up to the catalogue publication.

We’ve also been happy for our projects to feature at conferences, showings and events across the world – from Belgium, Spain and Colombia.

UPCOMING

Jol Thoms group event picture for newsletter
Listening Encounter, Wanstead Flats, London, UK June 5 2023. Jol Thoms, Radio Amnion, and Blanc Sceol, 2023.

Spin offs of existing projects, such as Plastic Magnitudes & Synocene, as well as future showings of artworks across EU institutions and cultural spaces in Europe and beyond make us excited for the year to come. The NaturArchy exhibition catalogue, as well as new productions, including the recently launched artistic-research project NaturArchy Mapping Framework will keep us busy in 2025.

In fact, get in contact if you're a policymaker artist or scientist wanting to get involved in this project on alternative cartographies of nature and biodiversity, safeguarding and restoration.
